About us...

The cultural association Società di Danza Monza and Brianza APS was born in 2011 upon initiative of Silvia Bianchi. Since May 2016 it has been run by Rosa Matera and Gabriella Bernasconi (as President). The association immediately joined the National Federation of Social Dances, directed and founded by Fabio Mollica in 1991. He carries out a work of historical research in the sector of nineteenth-century traditional dances, combining philological precision with the interpretation of old dance manuals, with the possibility of recreating, giving them a new life, ancient dances in contemporary social contexts.

The Association aims to bring back to life dances that belong to the European tradition and that went lost in the course of the twentieth century: quadrilles, contradances, waltzes, polkas, mazurkas and figurative marches. The work of the Association aims to rediscover the artistic technique that in the nineteenth century made these dances the object of interest of the greatest dance masters of that time, even before being a mass entertainment phenomenon.

The Società di Danza Monza e Brianza recognizes itself in the ideals and aims of the Federation and promotes, without any economic purposes, the study, practice and development in the Lombardy area of a dance system based on the European tradition of social dance of the Nineteenth century. It became APS in 2020, an Association that carries out activities of general interest for the benefit of its members or third parties, mainly leveraging on the voluntary work of its associates.
